Yuill and Cavell named UOIT athletes of the week
OSHAWA, Ont. – Assistant captains Cameron Yuill (Wellington, Ont.) and Mikaeli Cavell (Edmonton, Alta.) have been named the UOIT athletes of the week presented by Boston Pizza North Oshawa for the period ending January 24.
Yuill, a fourth-year communication major, had a memorable 100th OUA conference game this weekend as he scored the game-winning goal in a 5-3 victory over the Nipissing Lakers. The win was also the Ridgebacks 13th of the season, marking a program high for victories in a season. The next evening, UOIT picked up win #14 with a 3-2 victory over Laurentian.
The Ridgebacks return home this week for back-to-back games against Carleton (Thursday) and RMC (Friday).
Cavell, a third-year kinesiology major, accounted for all of the Ridgebacks’ offence this weekend with two goals in tight games against the Waterloo Warriors and Laurier Golden Hawks. This was the second time this season Cavell scored goals in consecutive games.
The women’s team will have a rematch against the Laurier Golden Hawks this Thursday night in Waterloo.
