The Active Living Challenge (ALC) is a campus-wide recreation, fitness and wellness event aimed at promoting health and wellness into the new year. Participants can track their workouts, participation in recreational sports, and activities that demonstrate overall physical activity to complete their activity card for a chance to win weekly prizes, including the Challenge grand prize. The ALC is open to all students, staff and faculty members. Stay connected through Campus Recreation Facebook and Instagram for updates in December-February each year.

2026 ACTIVE LIVING CHALLENGE (ALC)

Presented by the FLEX Fitness Centre

WHEN: January 5 - 30, 2026 (4 weeks)

WHAT: To encourage active living through a 4-week Challenge, piggybacking the oh-so-familiar New Years Resolution! This challenge will inspire and encourage individuals as they work to better themselves and achieve their new year’s resolution. Throughout the 4-weeks, the FLEX Fitness Centre will be giving away two ALC prize packs per week. These prize packs range in value from $50-200.

WHO: Durham College and Ontario Tech students (part-time & full-time), Durham College and Ontario Tech faculty/staff (part-time & full-time), Durham College and Ontario Tech alumni with an active Campus Recreation membership.

**1 month, 4 months, or 1 year – not a track only/open gym membership

PRIZES: To win an ALC prize pack, participate in the Active Living Challenge from January 5-30, 2026. Every 30 minutes of physical activity earns you a ballot towards the prizes for that corresponding week. All ballot entries, including those from winners of the ALC prize packs, will be put towards the grand prizes. Grand prizes will be drawn following the completion of the Active Living Challenge, during the week of February 2 - 6, 2026.

REGISTRATION

To participate in the Active Living Challenge…

  • Visit the FLEX Fitness Centre.
  • Visit the Whitby campus fitness centre.
  • Visit the Oshawa YMCA – OT specific.
  • Hit a local trail and go for a walk.
  • Join a free group fitness class.
  • Use the walking track at the CRWC.
  • Play drop-in sports at the CRWC, CFH, and CIC.
  • Attend a free skate at the CIC.
  • Anything active, track it! If you have questions, please contact fitnessservices@dc-ot.ca.

Activity cards are now digital and will be accessible through our website and linked to the DC-OT Campus Recreation social media accounts. Please note there will be a new link weekly:

If you require accommodations for the Challenge, please contact Brianna Christopher, Fitness Coordinator. Activity can be tracked daily and weekly throughout the duration of the Challenge.
