Bennett, Copeland Dinan and novice rowers named UOIT student-athletes of the week
OSHAWA, Ont. – Mitch Bennett (Fenelon Falls, Ont.), Emily Copeland Dinan (Ottawa) and the women’s novice 4+ crew have been named the UOIT student-athletes of the week presented by Boston Pizza North Oshawa for the period ending on Oct. 27.
Mitch Bennett, a Criminology and Justice studies major, spoiled Laurentian's first men's hockey home game in 13 years as he netted a hat-trick in a 5-4 Ridgeback victory. His third goal of the game came with only 19 seconds left on the clock, as the Ridgebacks picked up their first win of the year. This marked Bennett's first three goals of his OUA career.
Emily Copeland Dinan, a Kinesiology major, played a big role in the Ridgebacks first-ever playoff victory as they earned a 2-0 win over McMaster in penalty kicks. The first-year midfielder had an outstanding game controlling the pace of play and keeping the ball in the offensive end, limiting McMaster’s scoring opportunities. In penalty kicks, she made no mistake as she buried her shot in the bottom left hand corner (
