Morrison recognized by Scugog Sports Hall of Fame

Ontario Tech rowing assistant coach Ian Morrison has been recognized by the Scugog Sports Hall of Fame for his contributions to the sport community, receiving their outstanding sport volunteer award.

Working with the Ridgebacks and Durham Rowing Club, Morrison joined the club as a Learn to Row member in 2007. Following that, he has played a role in both the recreational and competitive programs throughout the years. He retired from teaching and decided to join the coaching ranks at the club in 2015. Morrison jumped in with both feet, coaching both club competitive, recreational and learn to row in the spring/summer and joining the Ontario Tech University coaching team that fall. Since then, he has driven from Newmarket to be in Port Perry for 5 a.m. training, sacrificing countless weekends to coach at regattas all over Ontario and across the country. He also became a board member three years ago.

"He has been such a positive influence on the athletes, giving them honest feedback, support and the technical expertise they need to be successful. His dedication and love for the sport is inspirational, and we are so lucky to have him a part of our volunteer coaching team," said head coach Jenn Durward.
