OSHAWA, Ont. – Kierstyn Hawke of rowing and Cullen McLean of men's hockey have been named Ontario Tech athletes of the week for the period ending on Sunday, October 13.

McLean and the Ridgebacks men's hockey team have come out flying out of the gate to start the 2024-25 season. After a close loss to the Gee-Gees in their season opener, the Ridgebacks have rattled off three straight wins. This weekend, McLean had an assist in a 4-3 overtime win over the York Lions, and picked up a goal and two more assists in a 4-1 win over the Ottawa Gee-Gees at the Campus Ice Centre.

Hawke, a former Ontario Tech athlete of the year, placed third at the Brock Invitational in women's singles, and came in fourth place with her partner Kara Woodworth in women's doubles with a time of 7:56.56.

The Ridgebacks rowing team now has it's eyes set on the OUA Rowing Championships starting on Friday, October 25. The Ridgebacks men's hockey team heads out to Kingston, Ont. to take on the Queen's Gaels on Friday, October 18, before returning home on Saturday, October 19 at 7 p.m. to take on the RMC Paladins.
