QUEBEC CITY, Que. - Ridgebacks badminton brothers Zhi Sheng Chen and Zhiyi Chen earned bronze in the collegiate men's doubles event at the two-day Yonex Quebec Elite event on Sept. 22-23.

The duo were the lone Ridgeback representatives at the elite event, competing in the open doubles, collegiate singles, and collegiate doubles categories.

Together the pair defeated their Laval opponents in the opening round of the collegiate doubles category, 21-12 and 21-14. Dropping their second round matchup versus the No. 1 team from Laval, 21-14, 16-21 and 16-21, the Chen brothers took to the consolation bracket. Facing off against the No. 2 Laval team in the bronze medal match, the Chen brothers bounced back with a 21-15, 11-15 and 21-14 win.

"This event proved to be a great start to the season allowing our men to compete against some of the very best teams in the collegiate ranks," said UOIT head coach Wayne King. "They earned some great wins and gained some valuable experience on the national stage."

The Ridgebacks will next welcome OUA competition to the Campus Recreation and Wellness Centre on Oct. 13-14 for the Ridgeback Invitational.
