OSHAWA, Ont. – Joshua Nguyen (Markham, Ontario) and Chloe Hoang (Markham, Ont.) have been named Ontario Tech student-athletes of the week for the period ending on March 17.
Nguyen and Hoang brought home a medal haul from the 2024 YONEX Canadian University and College Badminton Championship individual event. They teamed up to capture a bronze medal in mixed doubles, and Hoang also picked up a bronze medal in women's doubles with Jailyn Joensen (Whitby, Ont.)
Nguyen, a first-year Networking & IT Security student, fought his way to the finals of men's singles, where he defeated Toronto Varsity Blues stand-out Harold Tan, 21-11,21-10, to secure the first medal of the day for the Ridgebacks.
Hoang, a first-year Computer Science student, made it to the finals for women's singles after a fierce three-set battle with Sophia Nong and took down Jackie Dent 21-19, 21-14 to bring home the second medal of the day for Ontario Tech.
