UOIT tennis earns their first win of the season OSHAWA, Ont. – The UOIT men's tennis team earned their first win of the season on Saturday afternoon with a 4-3 victory over the Carleton Ravens at the Campus Tennis Centre.
With UOIT veterans
Kitso Leshope and
Robert Petrican dropping their matches in the first and second positions, it was the Ridgebacks third through sixth ranked players picking up wins to earn the team victory.
Alec DeSouza earned a straight sets victory in the third position, winning the final set 7-6.
Riley Therrien and
Jackson McGregor also earned straight set wins in the fifth and sixth positions respectively. UOIT freshman
Zach Winn would clinch the Ridgeback victory, with a 2-1 win over Greg Olive in the fourth position. Set scores were 6-4, 2-6 and 6-4.
The men's team also came close to picking up a victory on Friday night against Waterloo, but the Warriors escaped with a 4-3 win.
Tushar Gaur and DeSouza earned thrilling tie-break wins in singles action while the doubles team also took a point.
The women's team dropped a 5-2 decision to Carleton and were swept 7-0 by Waterloo.
Caleigh Pengelly and Aylix McCann earned points for UOIT against the Ravens
