After being drafted in the first round by the Cape Breton Screaming Eagles in 2018, Drover has spent the majority of the past five seasons in the QMJHL. He's played for the Rimouski Océanic, the Medicine Hat Tigers of the Western Hockey League (WHL) and is currently on his second stint with the Sea Dogs after playing with them in 2018-21.

Curtis Hodgins is thrilled to welcome the talented winger to his squad.
Â
"We are very excited to welcome Alex to our program. He is an extremely creative player who can put the puck in the net and also possesses great speed and a top-end shot," said Hodgins. "He will be a terrific addition to our forward group and will fill one of our roster's biggest needs. Alex is a first-rate individual and will fit nicely into our Ontario Tech culture. We can't wait to welcome Alex to our campus in September."

In 15 games with the Sea Dogs this season, Drover has five goals and 14 points. Saint John's head coach Travis Crickard says the Ridgebacks are lucky to welcome a great player and an even better person on the program.
Â
"We are excited for Alex to have the opportunity to pursue his post-secondary education and further his hockey career at Ontario Tech University," he said. "The Ridgebacks can expect to add a high-quality person, a player with a great shot and an opportunistic knack for creating offence."
