The Ontario Tech men's hockey team picked up a 4-1 win over the Nipissing Lakers to start their 2022-23 preseason on Thursday afternoon.
 
Tyson McConnell (Pilot Mound, Man.) and William Robinson (Upper Tantallon, N.S.) each scored for the Ridgebacks in the opening period to put them ahead 2-0 after the first.
 
Early in the second, Cole Stewart cut the Ontario Tech lead in half for the Lakers before a late period goal at the 16:31 mark by James White (Peterborough, Ont.) reinstated the two-goal lead.
 
Justin Svenson (Ile des Chênes, Man.) rounded out the Ridgebacks scoring.
 
In goal, William Desmarais (Sherbrooke, Que.) earned his first victory between the pipes as a Ridgeback.
 
Ontario Tech is next in action when they fact the TMU Bold on Saturday in Toronto.
