Bernier commitment adds to Ridgebacks offence

The Ontario Tech Ridgebacks men's hockey team is continuing to bolster their offence with the addition of right winger Gabriel Bernier.

Born in Victoriaville, Que., Bernier spent the last year playing for the Fredericton Red Wings, finishing with 21 goals and 32 assists. He ended the year sixth in Maritime Hockey League (MHL) scoring.

His performance helped lead the Red Wings to their division final in the playoffs where he added seven more points in 10 playoff games played.

"Gabriel is going to be a great addition to our program," said head coach Curtis Hodgins. "He is very gifted offensively and will upgrade our skill level up front without question, but he also has some good size and can skate. I believe Gabriel will be a great U SPORTS player and we look forward to him joining our program in the fall."

Prior to his time with Fredericton, he played for the Moncton Wildcats in 2020-21, where he appeared in 27 games.

He started his junior career with the Champlain St. Lawrence Lions in 2018-19 where he finished with 37 goals and 81 points over 66 league games over two seasons. In 2019-20 his 24 goals and 53 points were good enough to finish seventh in QCHL (Ligue de Hockey Collégiale du Québec) scoring.
