Nauboris and Ross recognized with OUA women’s hockey awards

BURLINGTON, Ont. – UOIT women's hockey players Kassidy Nauboris (Brampton, Ont.) and Erin Ross (Lucan, Ont.) were announced as OUA award winners today amidst the McCaw Cup playoffs.

Naubrois, a second-team all-star in 2016-17, was named to the first-team to cap off her record-setting season. She finished second in OUA league scoring with 15 goals and 32 points, one behind Western's April Clark.

Her impressive season saw her set new program single-season records for assists (17), points per game (1.33) and tied the single-season points record (32). Nauboris finishes her career second in all-time goals, assists and points behind former All-Canadian Jill Morillo. Taking over the lead in one all-time category, she passed Jaclyn Gibson for all-time game-winning goals with 10.

Nauboris also became the first Ridgeback women's hockey player to represent Canada at the Winter Universiade.

"I'm super proud of everything she has been able to accomplish, finishing her career as a Ridgeback with a monster season," said head coach Justin Caruana. "This recognition as a first-team all-star has a lot of meaning, showing that the rest of the league recognized the fantastic year she had and the honour she deserved.

As a freshman, Ross became the fourth Ridgeback to be named to the OUA's all-rookie team. She joins past recipients Tori Campbell (2013-14), Cassie Charette (2012-13) and Morillo (2009-10).

Ross posted six goals and 15 points in 24 games, good enough for fourth in UOIT scoring this season and just outside the top 20 in overall OUA league scoring and second in rookie scoring.

"Erin stepped into her first year in the OUA and really made an impact as a major part of our team," said Caruana. "I think Erin is only going to get better and I am thrilled for her to be recognized with this award. She put together a great season and I'm looking forward to seeing what she will do in the future."
