ST. CATHARINES, Ont. – Both UOIT curling teams returned home on Sunday with positive results from their first invitational tournament of the year.
Each team finished with a winning record, with the women's team going 4-1, while the men's squad was 3-2.
To open the weekend, both teams earned Friday night victories over the Sault Cougars.
The women kept things rolling on Saturday with a 4-2 win over the Guelph Gryphons JV team before a 7-1 victory over the York Lions. Their first loss came to the Queen's Gaels, a 9-2 game that night.
On the men's side they fell 7-3 to the Waterloo Warriors to open day two action, before also earning a victory over the York Lions, 10-5. Their second day ended with a 7-2 loss to the host Brock Badgers.
Ending the weekend with both squads against the Algoma Thunderbirds, UOIT won 7-4 in the women's game and 4-2 on the men's side.
Both teams will continue preparation for the OUA championship, hosted by Laurier from Feb. 14-18, with league play at Oshawa Curling Club.
