NORTH YORK, Ont. – The UOIT men's hockey team were three minutes away from overtime in Friday's exhibition game against the York Lions, which the host Lions inevitably took 2-1.
For the Ridgebacks, their lone goal of the game came from
Jordan Ross (Kronau, Sask.), while veteran netminder
Brendan O'Neill (Ilderton, Ont.) was solid for UOIT between the pipes.
"Tonight was a great tune up for the regular season," said head coach
Curtis Hodgins. "We played a very structured and hardworking York team that made us raise our level (of play). Really, all four of our exhibition games were tight battles, likely a sign of things to come with the parity in our league"
UOIT ends the exhibition portion of their season 2-2-0 and will now take the week to prepare for their season opening game on the road against the Laurentian Voyageurs. Last year the Ridgebacks were 2-1 against the Voyageurs.
On Saturday, the Ridgebacks face the Nipissing Lakers to wrap up their opening weekend of play in North Bay.
Overall Record: 2-2-0 (W-L-T)
Conference Record: 0-0-0
Next game: Friday, Oct. 5 @ Laurentian Voyageurs – (7:35 p.m. - Sudbury, Ont.)
