OSHAWA, Ont. – The UOIT men's hockey team fell 2-1 in overtime on Friday night to the Laurier Golden Hawks in their second preseason game.
The Ridgebacks got off to a bit of a slow start, resulting in a Laurier goal scored just minutes into the first period.
Rookies
Austin Eastman (Lindsay, Ont.) and
Jake Bricknell (Port Perry, Ont.) are quickly making a name for themselves as they have now both recorded points in back-to-back preseason games.
With a late goal scored in the third period by Bricknell, assisted by Eastman, the Ridgebacks were able to tie the game and force an overtime. Unfortunately, Laurier got the jump on the Ridgebacks, scoring just 20 seconds in to extra time.
• Fifth-year veteran,
Brendan O'Neill (Ilderton, Ont.), got the start for Friday's game and despite letting in a quick goal in the first period, was able to bounce back and hand the Golden Hawks a scoreless second period.
• Rookie
Leif Hertz (Kingston, Ont.) entered the game in the third period, fending off numerous tries from the Golden Hawks, which helped the Ridgebacks force overtime.
• After a perfect tape-to-tape pass from Eastman, Bricknell dangled his way past the goaltender to give the Ridgebacks the 1-1 tie late in the third period.
