Ridgebacks keep playoff hopes alive with a comeback win

SAULT STE. MARIE, Ont. – The UOIT men's curling team still has a shot at reaching the quarter-finals of the OUA championship after a dramatic win over the Ryerson Rams.

Trailing the Rams 6-4, UOIT scored a pair in the seventh and stole one in the eighth to pick up a 7-6 victory. Earlier in the day, UOIT dropped a 4-2 decision to the Laurier Golden Hawks.

UOIT (2-3) will wrap up round robin play on Saturday morning with a match against the Western Mustangs (5-0). In the pool B standings, four teams are tied for third place with matching 2-3 records.

In women's action, UOIT struggled on day three losing to Lakehead (8-6) and Laurier (6-4). With one match left against Trent (1-5), the best UOIT can finish is fifth place in the pool A standings.

Off the ice, teams were treated to a special meet and great over lunch with Olympic champions and alumni Team Jacobs. Brad Jacobs, Ryan Harnden, and former Team Canada head coach Tom Coulterman joined the 30 teams at the Community First Curling Centre.

The final two draws of round robin competition will play out tomorrow at 9 a.m. and 12:30 p.m.
