THUNDER BAY, Ont. – The UOIT men's hockey team will leave Thunder Bay with a win under their belt as they beat the Lakehead Thunderwolves 3-1 at the Fort William Gardens Saturday night. The Ridgebacks earn a split in weekend action as Lakehead beat UOIT 3-0 one day prior.
 
After Lakehead freshman Josh Laframboise tied up the game at 1-1 with a power play goal, the Ridgebacks struck back just 37 seconds later as Josh Carrick (Stouffville, Ont.), the younger brother of former Lakehead forward Jake Carrick, set up Anthony Latina (Scarborough, Ont.) at the side of the net.
 
Latina's goal proved to be the game-winner as Tyson Teichmann (Belleville, Ont.) shut the door on the Thunderwolves making 24 saves in the victory. Both Teichmann and Brendan O'Neill (Ilderton, Ont.) looked impressive in goal for UOIT this weekend.
 
Jack Patterson (Bedford, N.S.) would score an empty-netter with 53 seconds left in the third period to ice the game for UOIT.
 
Ben Blasko (Kingston, Ont.) was the other goal scorer for UOIT, drawing first blood on the power play in the second period as he knocked in a rebound after Wolves' goalie Devin Green made a nice initial pad save.
 
Shots on goal for the night were 38-25 in favour of the Ridgebacks.
 
Lakehead was 1-for-3 on the power play, while UOIT went 1-for-5.
 
The Ridgebacks are 2-2-0 in the preseason with one game remaining against the York Lions on Thursday, Oct. 5 at the Campus Ice Centre. Puck drop is 7:30 p.m.
