OSHAWA, Ont. – On Friday night, the UOIT women's hockey team faced the Carleton Ravens for a second time during preseason action. The Ravens were able to capitalize on their chances and finished the game with a 3-1 victory.
Opening the scoring for Carleton late in the first period was Annie-Pier Tremblay. The goal was assisted by her line mates Andreanne Carlos and Jenna Mitchell.
Sault Ste. Marie native, Jenna Mitchell, scored the second goal for Carleton as she had just come out of the box for serving a penalty for body checking. The shorthanded goal came midway through the period as the Ravens were trying to fight off a second consecutive penalty.
After struggling to take advantage of the three previous power plays, the Ridgebacks were finally able to score a goal with the man-advantage at 15:39 in the second period.
Megan Johnston (Goderich, Ont.), who has started to make a name for herself, scored the goal recording her second as a Ridgeback in the preseason.
The Ravens responded quickly with their third goal by Shannon Pearson coming late in the second period at 18:26, off a rebound.
Carleton outshot the Ridgebacks 27-20 as they took the win in the second preseason meeting between the two teams. In the previous 10 seasons, the teams only have faced one-another three times.
The Ridgebacks will look to get their first win of the preseason on Saturday as they host the Markham Thunder at 3:30 p.m. The game is the first of two the team will play against a Canadian Women's Hockey League opponent, as they also face the Toronto Furies one week later.
