TORONTO – The UOIT women's hockey team continued preseason action on Thursday night and suffered a 3-0 loss to the University of Toronto at Varsity Arena in Toronto.
The Ridgebacks fired 17 shots on goal but failed to beat fifth-year goaltender Katey Teekasingh who earned the shutout.
Kiyono Cox would score the game-winner with four minutes left in the opening frame scoring on a backhand and beating starting goaltender
Brooke Vial (Port Moody, B.C.).
Jessica Robichaud of Whitby sealed victory for Toronto with an offensive burst that included scoring a breakaway goal and off a scramble on the power play.
UOIT failed to score on four power play attempts while Toronto went 1-for-6 with the man advantage.
The Ridgebacks will look for their first win of the preseason on Friday, Sept. 29 when they take on the Carleton Ravens at home. Carleton beat UOIT 4-3 last weekend in Ottawa.
On Saturday, Sept. 30, UOIT will play the first of two games against Canadian Women's Hockey League (CWHL) opponents as they host the Markham Thunder at 3:30 p.m. The team is also scheduled to play the Toronto Furies on Saturday, Oct. 7.
