TORONTO, Ont. – With training camp coming to a close, UOIT's men's hockey team was in action for the first time on Friday night against the Ryerson Rams.
Unfortunately for the Ridgebacks, the Rams found the back of the net more often, despite being outshot as they picked up a 6-2 victory at Mattamy Athletic Centre.
Daniel Poliziani opened the scoring for Ryerson 4:08 into the opening period. Not long after, David Miller put the Rams ahead 2-0.
With a two-goal lead through one, Ryerson added four goals in the second off the sticks of Cavin Leth, Alex Basso, Aaron Armstrong and Matt Mistele. UOIT was outshooting Ryerson 19-17 through two periods, but had been unable to crack Brodie Barrick and Mario Culina.
The Ridgebacks did get the offence going in the third period as
Jordan Ross (Kronau, Sask.) scored at the 18:26 mark.
Spencer Roberts (Stouffville, Ont.), assisted by
Keaton Holinaty (Hardisty, Alta.), scored a minute later to cap off the UOIT scoring.
Brendan O'Neill (Ilderton, Ont.) started in goal for the Ridgebacks and made 11 saves through two periods, while
Tyson Teichmann (Belleville, Ont.) turned aside four shots on goal in the third period.
Both goaltenders were not 100 per cent going into the game, but are hoping to recover before their next exhibition action on September 22 against the Laurier Golden Hawks.
