TORONTO, Ont. – The UOIT women's hockey team is winding down their exhibition schedule as they prepare for the OUA regular season to begin next week.
In Toronto on Thursday night, the Ridgebacks fell 3-1 to the Ryerson Rams.
After a goal-less first period, Lauren Nicholson opened the scoring for Ryerson midway through the second on the power play. Less than a minute later Melanie Camacho made it 2-0 for the Rams.
The score stood at 2-0 after two, with Ryerson outshooting UOIT 19-9.
In the third
Kassidy Nauboris (Brampton, Ont.) cut the lead in half with a goal 4:44 in, with an assist from captain
Mikaeli Cavell (Edmonton, Alta.).
Unfortunately, that was as close as UOIT would get as Alyssa Connolly iced the game for the Rams with a goal at the 15:17 mark to all but put it out of reach.
Ryerson edged the Ridgebacks 28-22 in shots to end the game.
Brooke Vial (Port Moody, B.C.) made 25 saves in the loss for the Ridgebacks.
This weekend UOIT will host their final preseason game against the Toronto Furies at the Campus Ice Centre. Puck drop is 3:30 p.m.
