LONDON, Ont. – The UOIT men's hockey team suffered their first loss of the preseason as the Western Mustangs eked out a 4-2 victory.
Tied 2-2 with less than five minutes remaining in the third period, Tyler Sehovic scored the go-ahead goal for the Mustangs. Andrew Goldberg picked up an assist on the play and followed that up with an empty net goal, securing the win for Western.
Trailing 2-0 in the second period, UOIT scored their two goals over a three-minute span. Freshman
Kyle Locke (Aurora, Ont.) got UOIT on the board followed by the game-tying goal by
Riley Daly (Lorette, Man). Locke finished the night with two points as he assisted on Daly's goal.
Mike Robinson (Stouffville, Ont.) and
Ryan Doucette (Waterloo, Ont.) drew assists on Locke's goal.
Western's power play went 1-for-4 while UOIT was shutout going 0-for-3.
The Ridgebacks will have a week off before hosting RMC on Friday, Sept. 30 (7:30 p.m.) and York on Saturday, Oct. 1 (3:30 p.m.) at the Campus Ice Centre.
UOIT opens conference action in Ottawa as the Gee-Gees make their return to OUA hockey on Friday, Oct. 7.
