GUELPH, Ont. – The UOIT curling teams failed to advance to the medal round at the OUA Championship this week hosted by the University of Guelph at the Guelph Curling Club.
The Laurier Golden Hawks earned double gold, with the men's team dominating the finals beating Waterloo 10-1 and the women's team scoring the final three points of their match to beat Brock 6-4.
The UOIT women's team shot out of the gate with a 3-1 record, posting wins over Trent (6-3), McMaster (5-1) and Windsor (9-2). However, the Ridgebacks could not pull out a victory down the stretch needed to clinch a spot in the medal round. UOIT had losses to Western (6-4), Toronto (7-1) and Laurier (6-3), all teams that finished ahead of them in group B play.
On the men's side the Ridgebacks picked up a win in their opening draw, beating Laurentian 5-3. Unfortunately for UOIT, the match against the Voyageurs would be their lone victory of the championship as they lost six straight games.
