Furies roll to a win over UOIT

OSHAWA, Ont. – The UOIT women's hockey team knew they would be in tough on Sunday afternoon as they took on the Toronto Furies of the Canadian Women's Hockey League.

Although UOIT managed to hold Toronto to just one goal in the opening 24 minutes, the floodgates would eventually open as Toronto skated away with a 7-0 shutout win.

Natalie Spooner, who is on the Ridgebacks coaching staff as a player mentor, ended the night with a goal and two assists.

Whitby native Kelly Terry, who is also member of the Canadian national program, had two assists in the lopsided victory.

Michela Cava, Emily Fulton, Erin Zach, Jenelle Kohanchuk, Jenna Dingeldein, and Carolyne Prevost rounded out scoring for Toronto.

UOIT will wrap up preseason action on Wednesday night as they head to the Mattamy Athletic Centre to take on the Ryerson Rams.

OUA conference action begins on Oct. 15 in North York against the York Lions. The following day, UOIT will take on the Nipissing Lakers in their home opener at the Campus Ice Centre.
