OSHAWA, Ont. – Tyra Gordon picked a great time to score her first career OUA goal as she netted the game winner in the late stages of UOIT's 1-0 victory over the Carleton Ravens Saturday in Ottawa.
After being substituted back onto the field by head coach
Peyvand Mossavat, Gordon (Ajax, Ont.) managed to find the loose ball at the side of the net in the 80th minute. Gordon got control, turned and fired the ball through Carleton's defence and goalkeeper for the game's lone goal.
Up until that point, the Raven defenders set up a wall, limiting the Ridgebacks scoring opportunities.
Cassandra Sribny (Pickering, Ont.) and
Shynice Williams (Mississauga, Ont.) attempted to find a crease in the defence but could not slip through.
Making her third start in net, Hellen Frampton (Toronto, Ont.) wasn't too busy throughout the afternoon as she made only two saves for her second shutout of the season.
Carleton, who began the season with a 3-2 win over Queen's, has failed to score in their last three games.
UOIT will have a tough test on Sunday afternoon when they face the No. 3 ranked Ottawa Gee-Gees. The teams split their season series one year ago, each winning on home turf.
Game time at Matt Anthony Field is 1 p.m.
