OTTAWA, Ont. – The UOIT Ridgebacks women's soccer team had plenty of chances to knock off the No. 3 ranked Gee-Gees in the nation's capital but fell short as Ottawa earned a 1-0 win Sunday afternoon.
 
Julia Francki scored the game's lone goal, finding herself in the right place at the right time coming off an Ottawa free kick. The ball was directed with enough force to send it past goalkeeper Helen Frampton (Toronto, Ont.) in the sixth minute to give Ottawa the early lead. 
 
Over the course of the game, UOIT would throw everything they had at Ottawa, but Ottawa goalkeeper Cynthia Leblanc would stop all 13 shots on target. Leblanc's best save came off a free kick in the second half, when she tipped a strike with her fingertips that was heading for the bottom crossbar. 
 
The Ridgebacks appeared to tie the game in the last minutes of the first half, but the referee called a handball on the Gee-Gees and blew his whistle before the ball crossed the goal line.
 
Frampton finished the night allowing one goal on eight shots on target.

The Ridgebacks end their weekend road trip with a win and a loss, as they sit in sixth place with a 2-2-0 record. Ottawa has picked up points in each one of their five matches played and are currently on a four-game win streak.

UOIT will be back in action on Wednesday night when they head to Toronto to play the Ryerson Rams (1-2-2).
