OUA Women's CurlingRidgebacks split second day of OUA championship GUELPH, Ont. – The UOIT women's curling team will be looking to pick up a few more wins as they head into the final two days of round-robin play at the OUA championship.
After opening with a pair of losses to Brock and Toronto, the Ridgebacks cruised to a 7-1 win over Algoma on Friday morning in Guelph.
Algoma opened the game by taking one with hammer before a blank by UOIT in the second. The Ridgebacks then picked up three in the third before stealing one in the fourth to go into the break up 4-1.
A big steal of three in the fifth would be enough to end the match for the Thunderbirds.
Following the victory, UOIT was playing the next draw of the day against Lakehead. The Thunderwolves opened the game with a deuce with hammer to take the early 2-0 lead.
After a blank, UOIT was forced to take one. At the break, after another blank in the fourth, the Ridgebacks trailed 2-1.
Opening the second half of the game the Thunderwolves took three. This was the final end they would score, but three ends of single points to finish the game weren't enough for the Ridgebacks to complete the comeback as they lost 5-4, their third loss by a lone point.
UOIT is off for the remainder of the day as they prepare to take on Trent on Saturday at 8:30 AM.
