Box Score 2 LONDON, Ont. – The UOIT women's hockey team had their season come to an end this weekend with a pair of losses on their southwestern Ontario road-trip. The Ridgebacks opened the weekend up with a 5-3 loss to the Windsor Lancers followed up with a 3-0 shutout defeat to the No. 3 ranked Western Mustangs.
The Ridgebacks end the year with a 7-15-2 conference record, finishing in eleventh place overall and missing out on the playoffs for the first time in three years.
Generating offence plagued the team all year long as they averaged 1.75 goals per game, being shutout on five occasions. During UOIT's nine-game losing streak, the team was only able to generate seven goals.
The Ridgebacks looked to finish the season strong and were in prime position to beat Windsor on Friday night leading 3-2 with ten minutes to go in the third period. However, the playoff bound Lancers were able to storm back and score three unanswered goals to pick up the win. Krystin Lawrence recorded a hat-trick, including scoring the final two goals of the game.
Jennifer Sisson,
Nicole LoPresti and
Zoe Battie were the goal scorers for UOIT.
Up against Western on Saturday night, the Ridgebacks could not find a way to beat the goaltending tandem of Katie Jacobs and Kelly Campbell who earned the Mustangs' fourth shutout of the season. Western's defence has been stingy heading into the playoffs having allowed one or no goals in six of their last seven games.
UOIT will now focus on building for next year during the offseason with hopes of returning to the playoffs in 2016.
