Spooner scores twice in Toronto win

OSHAWA, Ont. – It is a good thing that team Canada's Natalie Spooner is a player mentor with the UOIT women's hockey team because playing against her can be tough. UOIT players learned that that hard way on Saturday night as the CWHL's Toronto Furies earned a 4-0 shutout win over the Ridgebacks.

Spooner showed off her offensive prowess scoring the opening two goals of the game. The Ridgebacks defence did a good job of limiting the Furies chances but they could only contain the national team member for so long.

Kelly Terry, who is also a member of team Canada, finished the night with two assists while Wisconsin Badger alumna Carolyne Prevost had one goal and an assist.

Christina Kessler, who played four years with Harvard, earned the shutout for the Furies.

Following the game, Spooner and Terry signed autographs for fans in attendance.

UOIT will now look ahead to their 2015 OUA home opener when they host the York Lions on Thursday, Oct. 8. Game time at the Campus Ice Centre is 7:30 p.m. York will play host to the Furies on Sunday at 2 p.m.
