Box Score 2 OSHAWA, Ont. – For the third straight week to open up the regular season, the UOIT women's hockey team split their pair of games.
In their weekend homestand against Northern Ontario opponents, the Ridgebacks began the weekend with a 3-1 loss to Nipissing followed by a 3-1 victory over Laurentian.
After scoring the opening goal of the game against Nipissing on Friday night, the Ridgebacks let their foot off the pedal as the Lakers stormed back with three unanswered goals to pick up the win.
Teresa Horner (Hamilton, Ont.) scored the Ridgebacks lone goal in the first period, marking the second of her career.
For the second straight year, Jacqueline Rochefort shined in goal for the Lakers as she made 18 saves in the win. Last year, she stopped 19 UOIT shots in a 4-1 victory at the Campus Ice Centre.
Tori Campbell (Saskatoon, Sask.) got the start in net for UOIT and stopped 23 Nipissing shots on goal.
Against the Voyageurs on Saturday, it was another defenseman chipping in offensively for UOIT as
Jenna Carter (Whitby, Ont.) scored the game-winning goal. As it was for Horner, her goal was the second of her career.
Carter's game winner came midway through the first period, just over a minute after
Nicole Gorda's (Edmondton, Alta) opening goal.
Sarah Biesenthal (Chepstow, Ont.) added an insurance marker in the third period, marking the first goal of her OUA career.
Chelsea Ball (Maple, Ont.) had two assists over the weekend, as she leads the team with five points on the year.
Campbell got her second straight start and made 22 saves for her third win of the year.
Although the Ridgebacks are sitting at .500, they have to wonder what their record would be if they were getting any production out of their power play unit. In six conference games, the Ridgebacks have gone 0-for-27 with the man advantage including 0-for-6 this weekend.
UOIT (3-3-0) will be on the road next weekend with games in Guelph and Waterloo.
