Box Score No. 7 ranked Gryphons top Ridgebacks in Oshawa
OUA Women's HockeyGuelph defeats UOIT 4-1 OSHAWA, Ont. – The UOIT women's hockey team walked away from the weekend with a split after losing 4-1 to the Guelph Gryphons on Sunday afternoon.
Guelph opened the scoring 14:30 into the first period as Mackenzie Wong potted her third of the season, beating
Tori Campbell (Lethbridge, Alta.).
Trailing 1-0 after the first period, UOIT left winger
Shaylyn Pavlisko (Oshawa, Ont.) tapped a rebound past Valerie Lamenta 10:26 into the second to tie the game 1-1. Assisted by
Jennifer Sisson (Ajax, Ont.) and
Sarah Biesenthal (Chepstow, Ont.), this was Pavlisko's first OUA goal.
Just six minutes later it looked like the Ridgebacks might pull ahead as they pinned the Gryphons in their own zone, but Guelph broke free and on their rush up ice, Jessica Pinkerton scored to put her team up 2-1.
Only 27 seconds later Katherine Bailey scored her first of the season for Guelph to extend the lead to two heading into the final 20 minutes of play.
Brittany St. James added an insurance marker for the Gryphons 7:46 into the third and Lamenta made 15 saves as Guelph skated to their 4-1 win.
Campbell made 26 saves in the UOIT loss, which was also her second start of the weekend.
The Ridgebacks next game is Thursday night at home against the Queen's Gaels. Puck drop is 7:30 p.m. at the Campus Ice Centre.
