Ridgebacks lose an offensive showdown to Ryerson OUA Men's Hockey: Ryerson defeated UOIT 6-5 *Exhibition Game OSHAWA, Ont. – Despite scoring four third period goals, the UOIT men's hockey team could not record their first win of the preseason as the Ryerson Rams skated away with a 6-5 victory over the Ridgebacks on Friday night at the Campus Ice Centre.
The Ridgebacks are 0-2-1 to start the preseason but can take a lot of positives out of their performance in all three games. Tonight, the team demonstrated a lot of grit and determination as they got back in a game that looked to be over midway through the second period.
After scoring a single goal in the opening frame, Ryerson would take control with three goals in the second period, as they led 4-1 at the break.
Nate Mitton (Oshawa, Ont.) scored the Ridgebacks first goal 2:21 into the second period.
UOIT's offence would come out flying in the third, scoring back-to-back goals in the first three minutes of the period to cut the lead to just one.
Jesse Stoughton (Bobcaygeon, Ont.) and
Mike Whiteside (Ajax, Ont.) were the goal scorers for UOIT, with Stoughton recording his second point of the night.
Ryerson's Mitch Gallant would regain the two-goal lead for Ryerson four minutes later, but UOIT would once again comeback with
Brendan Wise (Stouffville, Ont.) scoring on the power play with seven minutes on the clock.
With UOIT pressing for the equalizer, Ryerson's Domenic Alberga scored into the Ridgebacks' empty net to put the Rams back up by two. Wise would close out the game with his second of the night for UOIT, but time would run out on the Ridgebacks' comeback effort as Ryerson pulled out the road victory.
Jake Logan (Napanee, Ont.) assisted on both of Wise's goals.
Colin Dzijacky (Thunder Bay, Ont.) and
Jesse Raymond (Woodstock, Ont.) split time in net for UOIT. Dzijacky allowed the opening three goals and made 15 saves, while Raymond allowed two goals on 17 shots.
