Morillo's three-point effort leads UOIT to their fourth straight win
OUA Women's Hockey: UOIT defeated York 3-1
NORTH YORK, Ont. – The UOIT women's hockey team continued their winning ways on Saturday afternoon as they defeated the York Lions by a score of 3-1. This marks the Ridgebacks' fourth straight victory as they head into the final two games of their regular season, which are at home next weekend.
UOIT captain Jill Morillo (Whitby, Ont.) was in on all three UOIT goals as she finished the game with two goals and one assist, including the game winner in the second period. The fifth year senior has been on a torrid pace having scored eight points in her last five games. With 13 goals this season, she ranks fourth in the OUA.
With 63 career goals, Morillo continues to move up the OUA all-time goal scoring charts as she now ranks fifth. As well, with 109 career points, she has entered into the OUA top 20 for total points.
Also on a hot-streak is Sarah Worthington (Whitby, Ont.), who scored the game's opening goal late in the first period. In her last six games, Worthington has recorded eight points.
Tori Campbell (Lethbridge, Alta.) made 33 saves to earn her tenth win of the season, the most of any goaltender in UOIT women's hockey history. Campbell lowered her goals against average to 1.50, which ranks third in the OUA and first among freshmen. Megan Lee was solid in net for York making 32 saves as shots finished 35-34 in favour of the Ridgebacks.
UOIT managed to stay out of penalty trouble as they were not charged with an infraction the entire game.
The Ridgebacks (13-8-1) remain in fifth place with a program high 27 points.
UOIT will wrap up their regular season next weekend with games against Brock (Saturday) and Guelph (Sunday). Puck drop for both contests are at 3:30 p.m. at the Campus Ice Centre
