Box Score OUA Women's Hockey: UOIT defeats Brock 2-1 ST. CATHARINES, Ont. – The UOIT women's hockey team extended their win streak to three games with a 2-1 victory over the Brock Badgers in St. Catharines on Friday night.
The win also extends the Ridgebacks point streak to five games, as they improve to 5-2-1 on the year and sit in fourth place overall in the OUA standings.
UOIT fell behind 1-0, but took advantage of Brock's starting goaltender Stephanie Loukes getting injured midway through the second period. After only registering nine shots on net in the first half of the game, UOIT's offence would wake up; firing 21 more the rest of the way. The Ridgebacks persistence would pay off as
Kassidy Nauboris (Brampton, Ont.) and
Zoe Battie (Nanaimo, B.C.) scored goals in the second and third period respectively to give the Ridgebacks the one-goal victory.
The freshmen line of Nauboris,
Chelsea Ball (Maple, Ont.) &
Nicole Gorda (Edmonton, Alta.) has accounted for quite a bit of the Ridgebacks offence as of late as they have combined for 15 points (six goals and nine assists) in their last four games.
Tori Campbell (Saskatoon, Sask.) got her third straight start in net for UOIT and made 17 saves. During the Ridgebacks three-game win streak, she has allowed four goals on 71 shots faced.
UOIT will look to extend their win streak on Sunday when they head to Guelph (3-1-1) for a 2 p.m. start time. Sunday's game will be the Ridgebacks fourth game of a six-game road-trip.
