Box Score OUA Women's Hockey – UOIT defeats Laurentian 4-3 (SO) SUDBURY, Ont. – The UOIT women's hockey team extended their point-streak to four games after a 4-3 shootout victory over the Laurentian Voyageurs.
Chelsea Ball (Maple, Ont.) was the shootout hero, scoring the lone goal to lift the Ridgebacks to their fourth win of the season. Goaltender
Tori Campbell (Saskatoon, Sask.) stopped all three Laurentian attempts to go on and earn her second win of the weekend.
Ball would also get scoring started in the first period, as she extended her personal point-streak to three games with a goal at the 10:41 minute mark. Just 19 seconds later, assistant captain
Mikaeli Cavell (Edmonton, Alta.) would double the Ridgebacks lead with her second goal of the year.
In the second period, Laurentian stormed back with two quick goals of their own, as Jessica Staats and Julie Hebert scored 13 seconds apart.
Twenty-four seconds in the third period, Emma Leger would give the Voyageurs their first lead of the game with a power play marker. With their backs against the wall, it was UOIT's leading scorer coming to the rescue as
Nicole LoPresti (Hamilton, Ont.) tied the game up midway through the frame. Cavell and
Teresa Horner (Hamilton, Ont.) recorded their second points of the night with assists on the goal.
After a scoreless overtime period, UOIT managed to level their shootout record to 1-1 with Bell's game winning goal.
The referees let the two teams battle it out, with each side having one power play. Laurentian outshot UOIT 28-25, despite not getting a shot on goal in the overtime period.
UOIT opened up their seven-game road trip with a pair of wins, as they defeated Nipissing 2-0 on Friday in North Bay. The Ridgebacks are 4-2-1 and sit in fourth place in the conference standings. Laurentian is still winless sitting in last place with a 0-5-2 record.
The Ridgebacks will play Brock (Friday) and Guelph (Sunday) on the road next weekend.
