Ridgebacks break out of a slump with an eight goal victory over Ryerson
OUA Men's Hockey: UOIT defeated Ryerson 9-1 *Exhibition Game
NORTH YORK, Ont. – The UOIT men's hockey team broke out of a slump in a big way on Saturday afternoon as they picked up a 9-1 victory over the Ryerson Rams to close out their preseason.
After taking a 3-1 lead into the locker room after 40 minutes, the Ridgebacks offence would explode for six goals in the third period.
Seven Ridgeback skaters scored at least two points in the victory, including
Jesse Stoughton who had three goals and an assist. Stoughton led the Ridgebacks in goals during the 2012/13 season with 16 in 24 games.
Matt Salituro had two third period goals while veteran
James Woodcroft had two in the first.
Mike Whiteside,
Jeff Braithwaite,
Luke VanMoerkerke and
Jordan Ramsay were the other players with multi-point games for UOIT.
Veteran goaltender
Jacob Rattie stopped 25 of 26 Ryerson shots on goal. Steve Gleeson and Troy Passingham split time for Ryerson in between the pipes. UOIT would manage to outshoot Ryerson 33-26 in the eight-goal victory.
The win was UOIT's first of the year as they were 0-3-0 heading into Saturday's game.
This is the second meeting between UOIT and Ryerson in the preseason, with the Rams taking the first game by a score of 6-3.
The Ridgebacks will now look ahead to their OUA regular season opener which is scheduled for Thursday night at the Campus Ice Centre against the Brock Badgers. Puck drop is at 7:30 p.m.
