Ridgebacks close out their preseason with a win

OUA Women's Hockey: UOIT defeated Brock 4-3 *Exhibition Game

ST. CATHARINES, Ont. – The UOIT women's hockey team wrapped up preseason action on Wednesday night with a 4-3 road victory over the Brock Badgers.

The Ridgebacks enter regular season action on a winning streak as they sport a 4-1-0 record against post-secondary opponents in exhibition play.

Wednesday's tilt was evenly matched as the Badgers held a 2-1 lead after the first period, followed by UOIT leading 3-2 after 40 minutes. Defender Laura Marchese (Burlington, Ont.) would eventually score the game-winning goal for UOIT in the third period, which marked her first goal of the preseason.

Other goal scorers for UOIT included Mikaeli Cavell (Edmonton, Alta.), Nicole LoPresti (Hamilton, Ont.) and Victoria MacKenzie (Toronto, Ont.).

2012/13 OUA all-rookie Cassie Charette (Ottawa, Ont.) earned the win for UOIT in between the pipes.

UOIT will open up their OUA regular season with four road games beginning with Queen's on Friday, October 4. The Ridgebacks home opener is scheduled for Friday, October 18 against the Waterloo Warriors. Game time at the Campus Ice Centre is 7:30 p.m.
