Ridgebacks complete the sweep over the nationally ranked Thunderwolves

OUA Men's Hockey: UOIT defeated Lakehead 3-1

OSHAWA, Ont. - The UOIT men's hockey team defeated Lakehead University 3-1 Saturday night at the Campus Ice Centre completing a sweep of the nationally ranked team in their back-to-back weekend match-up.

The Ridgebacks entered the game filled with confidence as they shutout the Thunderwolves the previous night. This confidence showed in their play as a consistent attack led to the first goal of the game and first goal of the season for Matt Paul (Penetang, Ont.).

UOIT would then add to the lead with only 10 seconds remaining in the second period when the puck found its way onto the stick of Nate Mitton (Kitchener, Ont.) who successfully found the back of the net, creating breathing room for the Ridgebacks entering the third period.

The third period saw that margin of victory increase even further as Paul recorded his second goal of the game. The Thunderwolves would add a goal late courtesy of Keith Grondin, however, it would not be enough as UOIT collected their second win in as many days.

Ridgebacks' goaltender Colin Dzijacky (Thunder Bay, Ont.) followed up his first career shutout with another spectacular showing stopping 34 of 35 shots. With the back-to-back strong performances, the freshman goaltender increases his save percentage to .900, which places him seventh in the OUA among goalies who have played ten or more games.

The Ridgebacks will look to ride the momentum of their first-ever back-to-back victories over Lakehead as they next travel to Ottawa to face the 9-5 Ottawa Gee-Gees on Friday, November 29.
