Nationally ranked Gryphons end UOIT's road winning streak

OUA Women's Hockey: Guelph defeated UOIT 3-1

GUELPH, Ont. – The UOIT women's hockey team's winning streak on the road came to an end on Friday night at the No. 9 ranked Guelph Gryphons earned a 3-1 victory.

Coming into the game, the Ridgebacks were 5-0-0 in road games, which included wins over the nationally ranked Queen's Gaels and Western Mustangs.

Guelph's top line scored two big first period goals on Friday night with Jessica Pinkerton recording her sixth goal of the year five minutes into the game and Christine Grant notching her fifth seven minutes later. Melissa Berney (Bowmanville, Ont.) was the Ridgebacks lone goal scorer, as she picked up her second of the season midway through the first period to tie the game at one. Katie Dillon (Oshawa, Ont.) recorded an assist on the play.

After a scoreless second period, Guelph would put the game away midway through the final frame when Cara Sayles scored her first career goal.  Amanda Parkins recorded three assists for Guelph, bringing her point total to 12 this season.

Cassie Charette made her second straight start in goal for UOIT and stopped 22 of 25 Guelph shots. Stephanie Nehring stopped all but one of UOIT's 16 shots.

Both teams were scoreless on the power play with UOIT going 0-for-5 and Guelph going 0-for-2.
