OUA Women's Hockey: Queen's defeated UOIT 5-2

OSHAWA, Ont. – The UOIT women's hockey team dropped their third straight game on home ice as the No. 5 ranked Queen's Gaels picked up a 5-2 victory over the Ridgebacks on Friday night.

After winning four straight road games to begin the season including a 2-1 overtime victory over the Gaels, UOIT has been swept on home ice with losses coming against Waterloo, Laurier and Queen's.

The Ridgebacks could not find a way to stop Queen's top line on Friday, as Morgan McHaffie, Taryn Pilon and Nadia Larocca combined to score 11 points. McHaffie finished the night with two goals and one assist while Pilon and Larocca had one goal and three assists apiece.

UOIT would outshoot Queen's 6-2 in the first period, but it was the Gaels who led after 20 minutes as Clare McKellar scored her fifth goal of the season at the 13:00 minute mark.

Queen's would score back-to-back goals in the second period, chasing UOIT starting goaltender Tori Campbell (Lethbridge, Alta.) from the game.

In the third period, Katie Dillon (Oshawa, Ont.) managed to score her first two goals as a Ridgeback, but it wasn't enough to complete the comeback as Queen's was able skate away with the three-goal victory. Dillon, who played four seasons with the Western Mustangs, has 41 career goals and 70 career points.

Campbell finished the night allowing three goals on 11 shots while Cassie Charette (Ottawa, Ont.) let in two goals on 11 shots. Queen's goaltender Mel Dodd-Moher stopped 32 Ridgeback shots in her third win of the season.

Both power plays were 0-for-3 on the night.

UOIT falls to 4-3-0 on the year while Queen's improves to 5-0-1. Queen's is one point ahead of Western (5-1-0) for first place in the OUA standings.

The Ridgebacks will have the rest of the weekend off and will prepare for a two-game road swing against Brock (Oct. 31) and Guelph (Nov. 1).
