UOIT earns their third straight win in Windsor

OUA Women's Hockey: UOIT defeated Windsor 5-2

WINDSOR, Ont. – The UOIT Ridgebacks women's hockey team earned their third straight road victory to start their season as they defeated the Windsor Lancers by a score of 5-2 on Saturday afternoon.

UOIT and Western are now the only two teams in the OUA without a loss this season, and they will put their perfect records on the line in London on Sunday afternoon.

The Ridgebacks would get out to a commanding 5-0 lead after 40 minutes, as they scored five goals on 15 shots and chased Windsor starting goalie Ingrid Sandven from the game.

Jill Morillo (Whitby, Ont.) led the way with two goals, while Victoria MacKenzie (Toronto, Ont.), Gillian Morgan (Oshawa, Ont.) and Jaclyn Gibson (Cobourg, Ont.) all had singles. Mikaeli Cavell (Edmonton, Alta.) had two assists, the first points in her career.

Windsor would end up breaking the UOIT shutout midway through the third period as they scored back-to-back goals late in the game.

Tori Campbell (Lethbridge, Alta.) earned her third win in goal for UOIT, as she made 13 saves. The freshman goaltender has a 1.30 goals against average and a .938 save percentage.

Special teams played a big factor in the game as UOIT scored two power play goals and added a shorthanded marker. UOIT was 2-for-11 on the power play while Windsor was 0-for-8.
