Leshope and Krantz named UOIT athletes of the week
OSHAWA, Ont. – Kitso Leshope and James Krantz have been named the UOIT student-athletes of the week presented by Boston Pizza - North Oshawa.
On a weekend where tennis was in the spotlight with Canada participating in the Davis Cup semi-finals, UOIT had their own star in the making as Leshope won all three of his singles matches. Leshope, a second year manufacturing engineering major, earned a 2-0 sweep over his opponent from York University, and earned three set victories over the Toronto Varsity Blues and McGill Redmen.
James Krantz had a solid opening weekend for the UOIT varsity golf team. Krantz shot a 72 at the Carleton Invitational, leading the Ridgebacks to a third place team finish. In the individual competition, Krantz also ended up on the podium with a third place finish. The next day at the Queen’s Invitational, Krantz had another solid round as he shot a 75, which was the best score of any player on his team.
UOIT homecoming is set to take place on Saturday, September 21 featuring soccer matches against Laurier (1/3 p.m.), a men’s hockey game against Ryerson (7:30 p.m.) and other great events around campus. NHL Hall of Famer Doug Gilmour will be a special guest at the homecoming festivities, which is a free event.
