Zhiyi Chen, a first-year forensic science major from Newmarket had a third-place finish at the IUCC Mandarin tournament in Markham, which is considered the most challenging competition on the Ridgebacks' schedule. In the semifinals, he fell to the No. 1 seed Sean McGowan from Western in three sets after defeating Cliff Yuen from Ryerson and Tommy Du from Waterloo. Chen lost in a three-set nail biter to McGowan who is ranked third in the country in U23 competition.
