OSHAWA, Ont. – Ben Blasko (Kingston, Ont.) of the men's hockey team has been named the UOIT student-athlete of the week for the period ending Nov. 19.
Blasko, a fifth-year criminology and justice studies student, scored twice on Friday night in the Ridgebacks 5-4 win over the Nipissing Lakers. He opened the scoring in the game, just 3:54 into the first period, before eventually scoring the lone goal in the shootout to keep UOIT's win-streak alive.
On Saturday, against the Laurentian Voyageurs, Blasko scored the eventual game-winning goal in UOIT's 5-3 win. His goal was his third of the season, but he also assisted on
Alex Yuill's goal to tie the game 1-1 in the first, putting him second on the team in points with 11.
This weekend the team returns home on a four-game win streak to host the Lakehead Thunderwolves on Saturday and Sunday, with puck drop at 7:30 and 7 p.m. respectively.
The UOIT student-athlete of the week award is presented by Subway located at 2069 Simcoe Street North in Oshawa.
