OSHAWA, Ont. – Nik Vantfoort (London, Ont.), Braden Reid (Whitby, Ont.) and Julia Vinkovic (Oshawa, Ont.) have been named the UOIT student-athletes of the week for the period ending September 17.
Vantfoort and Reid combined to win the Ridgebacks first gold medal at the Western Invitational in the programs 11-year history over the weekend. The duo, competing in the men’s heavyweight double event, beat crews from Brock and Western to win gold with a time of 7:19.1. Their finish was 18 seconds ahead of the crew from Brock in second place.
For rowing, their next regatta is Head of the Rideau on Sunday.
The UOIT athlete of the week award is presented by Subway located at 2069 Simcoe Street North in Oshawa.
