Bright and Bordeleau take home UOIT student-athlete of the week awards

OSHAWA, Ont. – Kristen Bright and Kylie Bordeleau have been named the UOIT student-athletes of the week presented by Boston Pizza North Oshawa for the period ending on Oct. 20.

Bordeleau, a second year health science major, helped the UOIT women’s soccer team clinch third place in the OUA western conference with two ties in the final week of the regular season. In UOIT’s 2-2 draw against York, Bordeleau was fouled in the box in the 89th minute, setting up a penalty kick by captain Shannon Lucas. With the Ridgebacks trailing 1-0 in injury time against Windsor, Bordeleau was able to score her first goal of the season, giving UOIT another point.

The Ridgebacks will be hosting the McMaster Marauders at the Oshawa Civic on Wednesday, October 23 at 3:30 p.m. in the opening round of the OUA playoffs.

Bright, a second year criminology and justice major, played a big role in UOIT’s 10-5 victory over York in women’s field lacrosse. The Whitby native registered two goals and added three assists in UOIT’s second win of the season. The women’s field lacrosse team is now off until the OUA championship which is scheduled to run from November 1-3 at Queen’s University.
