OSHAWA, Ont. – The Ontario Tech Ridgebacks men's basketball team has added size and versatility to its frontcourt with the commitment of Kingston, Ont. native Jacob Girard.
A six-foot-six forward, Girard joins the Ridgebacks following a strong development path through Kingston Impact and Eastern Ontario Elite, where he earned Capital Classic Tournament MVP honours and captured the CNIT U19 championship. Girard brings a physical presence and a high-motor style of play, combined with a team-first mindset that aligns with the Ridgebacks culture.
"I couldn't feel more confident about committing to Ontario Tech and everything that comes with it," said Girard. "Coach Deluxshan and the rest of the coaching staff have been tremendously communicative about my role and so welcoming already. I truly believe I can develop at a high level in this program and assist in the future of the Ridgeback basketball program's success. I also see myself fitting in seamlessly with the Ridgeback community, both on and off the court."
The Kingston product played his high school basketball at Loyalist Collegiate and Vocational Institute, where he continued to develop into a reliable two-way forward.
"Jacob is an outstanding addition to our university and basketball program," said Pathmanathan. "He embodies the commitment, drive, and selflessness we value, and we're excited to support his growth and see the impact he'll make within our program."
Girard is set to join the Ridgebacks ahead of the upcoming season as he begins his studies in Kinesiology.
