OSHAWA, Ont. — The Ontario Tech men's basketball team came up just short on Friday, January 16, falling 61–57 to the York Lions at the Campus Recreation and Wellness Centre on Academic Excellence Night.
The evening also celebrated student-athletes' achievements in the classroom, including recognition of
Peter De La Paz for his academic excellence and commitment to success beyond competition.
On the court, the game featured multiple lead changes and remained within one possession deep into the fourth quarter, but York capitalized at the free-throw line late to secure the road win.
Keon Baker led the Ridgebacks with 17 points, going 11-for-14 from the free-throw line, while
Caleb Kassa added 10 points and nine rebounds off the bench.
Tombe Pitia anchored Ontario Tech on the glass with 10 rebounds as the Ridgebacks held a 44–37 edge on the boards.
Ontario Tech trailed 31–24 at halftime but cut into the deficit in the third quarter and stayed within striking distance throughout the final frame. The Ridgebacks had opportunities in the closing seconds, but were unable to convert on a last-second three as York sealed the outcome from the foul line.
Ontario Tech will look to bounce back quickly as they return to action tomorrow, hosting the Guelph Gryphons at 8 p.m. at the Campus Recreation and Wellness Centre.
