OSHAWA, Ont. – The Ontario Tech women's hockey team couldn't overcome an early deficit on Saturday night, falling 5–1 to the Guelph Gryphons at the Campus Ice Centre.
Guelph struck quickly, scoring just 42 seconds into the opening frame before adding two more goals later in the period to take a commanding 3–0 lead after 20 minutes. The Gryphons extended their advantage midway through the second period, but the Ridgebacks responded less than a minute later when Milana Perri buried her first of the season, assisted by Avery Dowson and Julia Jackson.
Ontario Tech pressed for more in the third, outshooting their second-period total, but Guelph's Maeve Sutherland-Case added her second goal of the night to seal the result.
Goaltender Zoe McGee made 35 saves in the loss, while Guelph's Sophie Helfenstein turned aside 12 shots for the win.
The Ridgebacks will be back on the road next weekend when they face the York Lions on Friday, November 7.
