TORONTO, Ont. – A shorthanded spark and a late defensive stand were the difference on Friday night as the Ontario Tech women's hockey team skated to a 2–1 win over the York Lions.
Ontario Tech struck first late in the opening period when Julia Jackson converted on the penalty kill at 15:32. The Ridgebacks added to their lead in the second as Milana Perri finished a passing play from Kiana Danielson and Melisa Ardanaz at 17:33.
York cut the deficit with a goal from Ginger Fast at 18:00 of the third, but the Ridgebacks closed the door the rest of the way.
Zoe McGee stopped 22 shots to earn the win, backstopping a Ridgebacks penalty kill that finished a perfect three-for-three. Ontario Tech generated 22 shots of their own and went zero-for-three on the power play.
